The ByreAbout this home

The Byre, was formerly a principle building of Astor’s Model Farm, part of The Cliveden Estate, which was built in about 1890. In 2012 the property was converted into a superb modern home which sits in one of the most beautiful and tranquil positions, with picturesque rural views and private access to the River Thames. Despite the rural tranquility, The Byre is also extremely conveniently located, with Central London less than 30 miles, Heathrow airport 15 miles, Junction 7 of the M4 only 5 miles and Junction 4 of the M40 6.5 miles. Crossrail, which is due to be completed soon, will provide a fast connection from Maidenhead to The City. Situated just south of the ever popular village of Cookham, the approach down a long tree lined drive is dramatic and impressive. With the conversion to a stylish modern house only 8 years ago, the property is extremely well appointed. Highlights include the magnificent galleried hall which occupies the central section of the property and runs the full depth of the house. The large kitchen is fitted with high quality appliances including a Miele double oven, steam oven, combination microwave and wine cooler.

There is Cat 5 wiring throughout and home automation and management systems by Berker KNX incorporating lighting and heating controls. All five bedrooms have en suite bath/shower rooms and the quality and attention to detail is plain to see with sanitary ware by Duravit and tiling by Porcelanosa.

The attractive south facing gardens have superb views running down to the river and there is a two bay car port.

The Byre really is the best of both worlds. Period charm, yet modern stylish living. Rural serenity, yet conveniently located.

The AreaCookham

Cookham was described by the famous 20th Century artist and resident, Sir Stanley Spencer, as ‘village in Heaven’ and it is easy to see why. A quintessential English Thameside village, with attractive architecture and an enticing mix of independent shops and restaurants make for a compelling place to live, within close proximity to London. Of particular note is the Bel & Dragon, dating back to 1417, this attractive English inn has character in spades with low beamed ceilings, roaring open fires and modern British classics on the menu.

Another famous resident was Kenneth Grahame, author of ‘The Wind in the Willows’ and it is the beautiful stretch of river between Cookham and Henley that is believed to have inspired the work.

London is within striking distance with the fastest trains from nearby Maidenhead Station taking as little as 17 minutes to reach Paddington. There is a wide choice of leisure activities nearby including beautiful walks, boating on the Thames, racing at Windsor and Ascot as well as polo at Windsor and The Royal Berkshire Polo Club. There is an excellent range of schooling, both private and state.
