Elibank House, TaplowAbout this home

Elibank House is arguably one of the finest Queen Anne houses in the south east of England. Built around 1705, the house was commissioned by Alexander Murrey, 4th Lord Elibank and was reputedly designed by Sir John Vanburgh, complete with stunning venetian style windows. The history of the house is ingrained within it – the Murrays were a Scottish noble family and Elibank was built as their residence in the south, close to both London and the Royal Court in Windsor. Much of the original period features remain including stunning panelled rooms, ornate and beautiful fireplaces, cornicing, original flooring, shutters on all of the windows and magnificent doors complete with original architraves.

At over 7,000 sq ft, Elibank House is a substantial and impressive attached family home, ideally located for a fast commute into London. There is a sense of grandeur and occasion throughout the house and a wonderful sense of history, yet the overriding feeling is one that this is a warm and comfortable house, ideally suited for family living.

The property has undergone a full restoration over the last 25 years including the installation of a magnificent Queen Anne period staircase which was previously part of Taunton Castle. The bathrooms have all been re fitted, complete with sanitary ware from Drummonds interspersed with period and antique fittings. The Chalon fitted Kitchen is magnificent with the feel of a traditional country house kitchen which juxtaposes perfectly with the ornate grandeur of the more formal receptions rooms.

The gardens are a masterpiece of design and landscaping and include a selection of beautifully tucked away areas including the breath-taking lily pond, as well as tree lined avenues which draw the eye and a fabulous view to Windsor Castle from the bottom of the garden.
